The heartfelt saga surrounding the closure of Animal Lovers League (ALL) has now reached its final chapter. As fellow advocates in animal welfare, we deeply feel the loss of such a longstanding shelter that dedicated years to rescuing and caring for stray animals in Singapore. As we step forward to help the dogs left behind, we are also faced with the reality that significant resources and funding will be needed to ensure their continued care and well-being.

Our immediate concern now turns to the animals left in limbo. We are heartened that the authorities have stepped in to support them during this difficult transition, with the hope that what seems like an ending can become a new beginning.

As OSCAS, a dedicated dog shelter, we felt compelled to act - especially after witnessing the anguish of those who had devoted years to nurturing these dogs. We have committed to taking under our care 29 out of the 56 dogs currently displaced. This is a significant responsibility, particularly as we have just established a new unit to house the homeless Sarimbun dogs from Lim Chu Kang, an area slated for redevelopment.  With our existing 91 dogs, this brings the total under our care to 120. It is a daunting undertaking, especially as 95% of these new arrivals require medical attention.

To accommodate the 29 ALL dogs, we had to secure another two additional units in The Animal Lodge, bringing our total to nine.  We are deeply grateful to NParks/AVS for their generous support in providing one year’s free rental and three months’ free utilities. 

Even with this assistance, the scale of care required is substantial. We project an additional annual expenditure of approximately $178,000 in 2026 to sustain the care these dogs deserve. This includes essential improvements such as CCTV installation, increased manpower, daily upkeep and much-needed medical treatment.
